Life is a game of perception. We never know what is going on in someone’s life. We live by our own rules taking our perception to be the truth ignoring all other realities of life.

13 Reasons Why is a story of a girl named Hanna Baker. Imagine a girl is dead in your school and you receive the series of audio tapes after her death. Shocking but this is what happened with Hanna’s fellow school mates and friends. The story starts with the end of Hanna’s journey of Life. In the beginning, Clay the central character of the series is trying to find pieces to the incomplete puzzle. The journey to find the reasons to her death started when Clay received a box of 13 audio tapes with rules and instructions to be followed.

13Reasons Why revolves around several characters like Justin Foley (Hanna’s first kiss), Alex Standall (Hanna’s friend), Zach Dempsey, Marcus Cooley, Bryce Walker, Jessica, Ryan Shaver, Tyler Down, Courtney Crimson, Sherry, and various others who somehow let her down at some point of the time and hence became a reason for her suicide.

She deserved a normal life like any other teenage girl but the mind-set and the upbringing of her fellow mates made her life miserable. Her first kiss with Justin became a matter of public discussion after her private picture was revealed to everyone in the school. The school photographer Tyler was constantly invading her privacy by taking pictures when she was at home. Her poet friend Ryan published her poem without even asking her and made her the joke of the entire school. Bryce Walker ended up raping her in his own party. Whenever she tried to start afresh, life bumped her hard and she never got a chance to live and be happy.

She got so emotionally disturbed by all this that she never tried to reach out to anyone for help. Not even to her closest friend Clay Jensen with whom she used to work at Crestmont Movie Theatre and cutely referred to him as “HELMET”. Clay was the only person who was not responsible for her death but was still on those tapes because Hanna loved her and he could not express his feelings when she was alive.

Hanna could have been alive if she had talked to someone who really cared for her. Nobody understood her may be because she never tied to tell anyone. She chose death over her precious life and left her loved ones to suffer after her.
